seagate barracuda issues after dropped laptop

November 8th, 2017, 19:36

I posted over at a techsupport forum and it was suggested I post here as well.
hi all
Our laptop got knocked off a table by our dog who still thinks she is small. I have already fixed the fractured lcd screen with a replacement but I cannot get the 2ndary drive to even be detected by bios. I assume this is a lost cause, but I figured I would see if anyone has any thoughts. The drive is a seagate barracude 2tb 2.5" sata drive. It is about 9 months old. When the laptop hit the ground the plate holding in the hard drive popped off and the hard drive flew out. Since that time anytime it gets powered up it makes a few beeps, sounds like it tries to spin and repeats this a few times. Sometimes windows can boot with it in, sometimes not. Yesterday with it in the machine I could not even get to bios. This suggests to me that the pc is detecting it but it is tripping something to not allow it to boot up. Similarly if I stick it in an external enclosure and plug it in while windows is running sometimes it freezes windows. It never shows up even when it does not freeze windows. Yesterday, with it plugged in windows froze at restart. The key data on there I want are pictures from Halloween and October. I had last synced right before and was planning on syncing the next day after this happened. lesson learned.
so any ideas or troubleshooting I can do?
I have:
1. tried recuva
2. tried seagate recovery
3. tried easeus
4. windows disk manager sees it as not initialized and unknown but I get a fatal device hardware failure when I try to initialize.
5. recuva, easeus all do not see it though
6. I could not get into the bios with the drive in

thank you. if you need any other information let me know.

If you need data from it, you will have to send it to a specialized person.

If you do not think the value of the data justifies the cost, , just trash the drive. It will probably need new heads to recover the data.

if RI is good for you (not that far from NY)

A forum member is creating a list of reputable companies based on a few factors, it may be worthwhile seeing if they appear on the list ;-)
