MAXTOR N40P NCR

December 16th, 2004, 11:43

HELLO.
YESTERDAY SOMEONE CAMED TO ME WITH AN MAXTOR 6E40L0 40 GB, THAT WAS DETECTED N40P, OF COURSE.
THE DRIVE'S P-LIST, G-LIST, RZTBL, ID were missing. ok i said to me this one is easy.
I'VE FOUND P-LIST AND RZTB IN THE SECOND DATA COPY, EXTRACTED WITH HEX EDITOR, WRITEN IT ON DRIVE, BUT DRIVE STILL NOT DETECTED. THEN I GOT THE ID MODULE FROM AN IDENTICAL DRIVE, DRIVE NOW DETECTED MAXTOR 6E40L0 NCRUW0.

WHAT COULD BE WRONG ??

It had bad sectors in SA, that's why it didn't had p-list , g-list, ID & rztbl.
On the sticker of the drive NAR61590 is the firmware version, but now it's detected as NCR31UW0, and the most important thing is that i can't read from it, it goes busy, but it comes out from busy state as soon as i stop trying to read from it.!

any ideea why ? someone ? pls !?

Maybe 1:20 N40P will have remap of sectors in SA - maybe less
Look in rom copy ????0100 I think offset 4000 and you will see CN***
Also look at the original file you saved you will see AN****.

Then you can figure how this maybe happened. :shuffle:

Yo were wright with the rom. I've writen the original rom but, the drive enters BUSY state, an stay like that forever.
I've loaded LDR in safe mode and found g-list, dmcs & smart att went missing again. I've tried to write new ones, but no succes, it just won't write anything.
What could i do next ?

Probably this one you won't get data.

- - - does not mean the mod is empty or needs overwriting.

Remember this for the next one.

Hi, all,

AFAIK concerning this model NCR means that the OVLs were read from copy OVL1 instead of OVL0.
you may try to re-write OVL0 from the second copy.

Agreed,

Here I see few Samsung but plenty WD.

WD - another animal - here I have 100s to pull on the tail.

Strange that we have little discussion on WD here.
