Seagate Crawford Drives

Anybody having head swap compatibility issues with these drives? I have had several of these drives in recently where new heads will not read or write to the drives. Put the heads back in the donors and they read fine......

Yes, had to do it the long way as there is no terminal access, but both patient drives happen to be BC 05 and I have a BC 05 donor.

yes. And only preamp matches doesn't work.

ISTR that someone suggested that the slider vendors should match also.

I presume that info is not available in the ROM if there is no terminal access?

Would importing the donor's head related adaptives be advisable?

AFAIK it is not possible on these drives. Whenever I have tried I get an access violation error in PC3K. Anyone has success?

I may not be able to help, but I could examine/identify the Crawford ROM components for you.

We might be able to manually transfer the adaptives if we could identify the relevant ones. To this end it would be useful to take a different F3 model and compare a patient ROM before and after importing a donor's adaptives into it. If you are getting a lot of Crawfords into your shop, then it might be worth a little experimentation.

I have never noticed, is the slider vendor detailed in the terminal CTL-L report?
And do you get an access violation trying to move adaptives on these drives?

So how do two drives, which are physically identical apart from the slider vendor, account for this difference and how does this difference manifest itself?

Would there be any point in comparing the resistances of the read elements?

Per Ace support: PC3K gives access violation error because the function is not supported. Furthermore, per their explanation: like Rosewood family, the import isn't necessary.

With that in mind, yes, I have been experiencing compatibility issues, even with swapping heads among good working drives as an experiment that have matching sliders.

it is not physically identical because heads are different.
