WD "EasyStore" - WD40NMZW-11GX6S1 errors

A friend's Western Digital "EasyStore" USB portable drive stopped working. She says she didn't drop it but that she disconnected it from the PC abruptly (i.e., didn't unmount it first). The drive within is WD40NMZW-11GX6S1.

The drive spins and does not make any noises but after long attempts the Linux kernel gives up on it. I tried connecting with a USB 2 cable in place of the USB 3 cable with the same result. I also tried powering up the drive using a USB 3 powered hub before connecting the hub to the PC's USB port with the same result.

Is it likely that the problem is with the PCB or does this look like some problem with the drive internals?

In addition to the two inline photos I have attached (but not inlined) the rather long error log.

Bad sectors and possible firmware issues are likely the problems. Almost no chances of success in working via USB.
Best to refer to a data recovery specialist.
