LaCie Rugged RAID 2x2TB: How to access 2nd HD if 1st fails?

December 16th, 2018, 7:32

Hello,

I've got a new LaCie Rugged RAID external hard drive which consist of 2x2 TB hd's (=4 TB total).

I set it to RAID1 so that my data will be mirrored identically on both hd's. Hence when it's connected to my Mac it is shown as only one 2 TB hd instead of 4 TB. I can't see the 2nd hd.

However, I'm wondering what should I do if one of these 2 hd's fails? How do I access the mirrored data on the 2nd hd if the 1st fails when I can only see one hard drive when it's connected to my Mac?

And how do I notice if one hd fails when it's only shown as one on my Mac?

Thank you so much!

It looks like you need to install the Desktop Manager software to monitor your RAID status. See manual here.

You will only see 2Tb as the totalt volume is 2Tb...check that the colored diods looks the same on the chassie i.e 2 green or 2 blue...and not any of them red.
If one drive fails it should be a warning with a red diode.
