Off set magnetic plates during platter transfer

January 2nd, 2019, 7:04

Can somebody recommended a good site that explains the possible off set tolerances during a platter transfer.

1. I think off setting plates is going to destroy it but red that some models and brands allow for that.

I got a complete seized 7200.11 here and about to swap plates over to a donor. Just for testing, data is not important on that one. I would use labels to have both plates not moving during the transfer.

I don't think that there is anyone who is willing to publicly share the results of their research on this here and it might just require you doing the same as everyone else. Buy test drives, shift the platters and document which ones work and which don't. The one thing I can tell you is that 7200.11 is NOT one that handles individual platter movement.

Thanks Luke, I had a go at it at the 7200.11 under the assumption off set is critical. Drive is imaging atm, weak but doable.
