Can someone help me to understand module FF on wd200ED? Im going crazy!!

Every hard disk from new generation has internal software, and this software can do some action, and what they can do will depend on the manufactur.
The module FF in Western Digitals means "Selfscan" so the hard disk in the Selfscan condition will perform some actions by itself, to know what are this actions you need to read about the manufactur and about what they let the internal software perform. Sometimes small heads adjusts, sometimes the sefscan can remap badblocks to G-List sometimes to P-List, and others small repairs. This will help the manufactur in theyer RMA service, less people will send hard disk to them. Nobody can say that this will work like they think, some people can bet, I don't.

How specific can I be? I need to understand what the values in this module mean :wink:

So far I have found the Geometry and scan scipt steps... But I need more information :yayaya:

You already tryed to use the IDA Pro software ?
And another try is to install an IDE monitor and start the PC3000 utility and see what you get.
For instructions that you will see inside the module I know that you know more them all of us, I even think you can teatch us.

Yes I have seen this site in the past. But ........ information on SelfScan cannot be found :weep:

This looks like basic util anyway

Yes I use this tool and some others. But PC3k does not have this info or option in their program

I know nothing is placed in public that is of real interest

Basic read/write Phy/Log/SA..SMART....and others.

Now interesting is 0xff 0xfd 0xex

MMM did not mean to offend you. Of course it is not BASIC util, it looks very good. Im sure it works good also. I just mean I want to work on other level of HDD diagnostic :wink:
