Samsung HD321LJ Donor

March 21st, 2019, 6:48

Hi,

I'm looking for a long time (about a year) for a donor for this drive but cannot find one.

HD321LJ does not seem to show up.

Does anybody know of any cross compatible drives for this one?

Thanks.

Try using a HD501LJ instead. Yours was probably intended to be a 500Gb in the first place and was downgraded when one platter surface was no good. Even if you did find another HD321LJ it might be missing a different head than yours. So you should be buying the 500Gb version anyway. That way you're guaranteed to get all heads.

Thanks for the tip. I found a couple of HD501LJ. In a few days I'll come back with a result.

I made the swap with heads from an HD501LJ I found online.

Drive starts ok, no strange sounds, don't spin down, even gets ready.

If i try Read ID, or any user sector gets BSY.

Terminal looks like this:

SPW 3.0G LinkOk!SpnOk
spd: 0000 0000 0000
ADC: 0006
DAC: A393
H: +00000

Any advice ?

Must be media problems (bad sectors)

Have you checked the preamp version between both?

Case closed. Donor heads put back in Original drive do not work anymore.

It seems media damage is too great for any chance of recovery.
