Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

WD10JMVW 11AJGS2 (1 tb ) usb stopped when clone.
Converted to sata for clone.
I was cloning this drive. Aproxx first % 10 part was very slow. I passed this part. Clonned high speed other % 90 . Was fast and no bad sector.
Then turned again first part. Adjusted max timeout . I Clonned some. Remained % 1.67 . Customer wants that remained parts also. He accepted extra cost.
Now MRT not recognise drive. I have all modules and ldr from original disk. .
I cannot see any modules, any data now. Drive making some clicking noise but not Iike head problem sound that I heard before.
Cannot load zone table. SA info. Head test says all 4 heads died
Could be head damage or something about modules.
For head swap
I have a donor
WD10JMVW 11AJGS1
Is it compatible

Head swap should work, did you clear mod 32?
March 25th, 2019, 13:55
I cannot see any module now.
So what is mod 32
March 25th, 2019, 13:59
Module 32 is the relo list, can cause drive to respond slow ans take forever to become ready. Module 32 should be cleared before imaging.

Learning . Thanks for info.

hi hdddonor
can u upload the head sound.
save the ROM and SA bypass and see what is happening.
sometimes platter 0 has a small damage and now heads are not working properly.
can u upload the PCBs pictures of both hard drives.

Forgot to mention,
remove the heads from the patient drive and inspect under a microscope. Look for any contamination on the sliders and towards the end of the heads.

How do I clear. Directly deleting all data in mode 32? Or filing 0 some parts?

Your data recovery tool should have an option to clear module 32, should be available on pc 3000 and MRT.

.
Cannot access to SA. I can try to save rom. I have backed up before cloning. Are you asking read Rom again?
I guessed a head could weak when starting to clone. But , All 4 head was slow different part in first % 10 of drive. I heard some strange noises in that part sometimes. Other % 90 clonned full speed. And No bad sector

Do you mean Usb and SATA pcb s?
Or donor and patient ? (Same pcb number as I remember)
Bye the way . This drive dropped before come to me. Customer has dropped. So It was in slow response in windows

MRT has "solve slove response " . Is that?
March 25th, 2019, 16:17
Yes that is it, however you need access to SA to perform that operation.

Have you got a microscope? Sometimes if you leave the drive on for few minutes and then try to enter the WD utility SA might get loaded.

Stay with the SATA, USB PCB is pointless and slow, you should not be scared to turn the drive on, data recovery is never 100%. If you was to turn on the drive and listen carefully with your ear, does it sound like its trying to read or is it always clicking?
Do you know how to load LDR and Module List to check if you can test SA?

i have never used MRT. but i think there will be a option call Service Area bypass ( SA bypass) If you have ROM backup then ok. bec. sa bypass option change the ROM.if bypass Ok and if heads are ok you can see the modules and you can correct them. after correcting you have to write original ROM.
yes. i ask paitent and donor PCB. bec. i am not sure about donor head.
i think 0 _ 10% area of platter has a damage since dropped.

I don't understand why all 4 heads gone . I am not sure about heads died.
Tried again with LDR and couldn't load mode 1. I load mode 1 from my backup. . Now shows modules list. But cannot read amy modules from disk. When try to open giving error.
