Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi there,
customer have a Wester My Passport 4TB.
I can unlock it with the passwort but the Partition is RAW. Checkdisk is not possible.
If I try to scan the surface for a filesystem with with R-Studio its very slow -> 100MB in 20 minutes. If i try to rawcopy it i get sector errors on every sector.
I cant hear any scratch or clicking noise and the disk is blinking normaly while I try to access it.
Could it be possible that it is a Bug in the Firmware and the unlockingprocess doesn't work correctly?
best regards
Fabian

Check the SMART data. Do you have data recovery hardware tools such as PC 3000?

This method doesn't work for Spyglass (SMR) drives to make them fast.
I would think, OP reading and scanning zerioes.

HI,
WDMarv wont let me access to the disk. It says -> Drive is password protected. See Pic
I can read the Smart Data with another tool. See Pic
I dont have a PC3000. I asked already for an offer but that was to expensive.
Is it possible to handle it with WD Marvel? If its working with it i wanna buy the livetime licence for it. Or do u have some better tools to handle it?
best regards
Fabian

Just outsource the drive to someone who can recover from it ?
Exactly, even for pro with latest PC3000 these are a nightmare.
So DIY is right out of the question on this one
