Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
I need to buy an HDD and wanted to know what's the best I can buy for ~€100 (on amazon.es).
Don't mind if it is 2,5" or 3,5" as it is for a desktop computer.
Ideally 2TB, but could do with 1TB if really worth it, or more than 2TB if not over €100.
Thanks!

I would go with a Western Digital Blue (3TB for ~€70 on PcComponentes), or a Toshiba drive. If you want me to look at a specific drive you're considering send me a link.

Thanks for your answer, but I was looking more for an HGST/Hitachi drive, as I believe those are the best ones.
This disk will go into a home "server" that is on 24x7, so I am looking for reliability over performance.
Have seen these options:
- HGST Travelstar 7K1000 1TB (€59)
- HGST Ultrastar 7K4000 2TB (€93)
- HGST UltraStar 7K4000 3TB (HUS724030ALE641) (€85)
- HGST Ultrastar HUA722020ALA331 (A7K2000 I think) 2TB (€68)
Which one should I go for? Or maybe there are better options?
Thanks!

I've never had the pleasure/displeasure of working with those specific drives, but that in itself is usually a good sign. I would go with your second or third option. However if you are very concerned about reliability you should consider setting up a RAID. No matter how reliable a drive claims to be, it's always a lottery, and some redundancy will save you great pain.

Without a regular, off-line back-up, a RAID will be of no use if it's struck with ransomware, power spike or theft.

I have backups in place, don't want RAID, just need a reliable disk to be on 24x7.
