Raspberry Pi infected WD Drive!

October 20th, 2019, 15:10

Hi
My first post is as likely as most are: "I have a problem"!!

I have or rather had a pertfectly good portable WD HDD. That was until I wasn't watching what I was doing when I was formatting and re-downloading Raspberry Pi image stuff.
The up-shot is that I have a WD drive that is showing that it has 47.2MB capacity. I can't recall what the original capacity was but as the name for the drive is "Really Old" I guess that it was a few Tb's. If I try to format the drive it stays at 47.2 MB.

Any thoughts?

HyFy

PS I watch what I am doing more closely when dealing with RPi images - you can bet.

Yeah well, first would be the title of the post is wrong. Noting was infected, was it?

showing that it has 47.2MB capacity

Where?

I can't recall what the original capacity was

Open enclosure and consult label on hard drive.

OK - Well it "caught a cold" or at least a problem from having had a Raspberry Pi image file inflicted on it.

Where?

The capacity is showing on File Explorer on the desktop when connected to it. If I try to copy a file larger than 47.2MB to it I am informed that there isn't enough space on the drive.

Open enclosure and consult label on hard drive.

2TB.

If size is off in Explorer then this may be reflecting the file system rather than the size of the device. Important is what is shown for the size of the device in Disk Management. If size is okay and assuming you do not need to recover the data simply delete volumes and re-partition.

Thank you for that.

I now have the hard drive happily backing up a security camera drive!

Thanks

Maybe I should have marked the last reply "Solved".

If so: "Solved".
