Platter cleaning

Hello, I saw today a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afUdR6c8ikY) which blow my mind a bit and there is all done what i where thinking you can not do...

1) How he can extract all 3 platters and rotate them around - I was thinking they have to stay precisely aligned to each other?!
2) He just scrub with the broken head-assambly some particles off - in my opinion it looks quite rough to me.

You can really handle platters that way?

The machine looks like the APEX Platter Extractor but i where thinking that can be used only for drives with one platter...

What blows my mind is the fact that "alignment" is necessary at all. An embedded servo by definition is self-aligning. AISI, it's just another case where the engineers have screwed up.

... I see - looks like for some drives the alignment is not important but how to check if it is or not? Is there a complete list or do I need to find it out on my own?

Are there some Books or Videocourses which you could recommand me? I found one from Scott Moulton (myharddrivedied.com) but if the videos are the same as on youtube i am affraid I will not learn much...

I Would Like To Answer Your question 1 by 1

1 : Platter Alignment is req in some drive and not in others ,Also you can work about firmware to solve alignment issue if you know how
2 :I did not like what erkin did to remove the stuck part ,A better approach would have been you use a fishing line or nylon thread and take the same apart .I was wondering how the poor apextoollab tool survived the ordeal
3 : To Pick And Place Method You Can Use Tool From Apextoollab , Chinese Tools That Use Dual Sided Tape on a Steel Tool To Remove Platters or Tape Method .

PS : I did a fantastic case today what i worked on for three days And involved much more work then you see in the video .Result success

This Was The Chinese Tool i Was Talking About .The Platter Stand Is #@$@#%$ As WE Cannot Secure it Like We Can To HDDsurgery Stand And Hence When You Like To Rotate Platter It Will Fall Down
