what if you block SA access, does it spin up that way with original ROM?

If you have an unlocked PCB, then transfer the patient's adaptives to it.

AFAICT, your ROM dump has a sabotaged boot block (offsets 0 - 0x1FFF):

Everything else appears to be OK. It could be that patching a boot block from another ROM, even from a different firmware version, is all that you require.

I would try changing the header of the boot block from this ...

Code:
Offset(h) 00   02   04   06   08   0A   0C   0E

00000000  5A04 0000 D81E 0000 D41E 0000 2000 0000
00000010  0010 0000 0010 0000 01B6 0000 F81E 0053

... to this:

Code:
Offset(h) 00   02   04   06   08   0A   0C   0E

00000000  5A04 0000 D81F 0000 D41F 0000 2000 0000
                       ^         ^
00000010  0010 0000 0010 0000 01B6 0000 F81F 0056
                                           ^    ^

Do you have a dump of your unlocked ROM? Perhaps we could use it to build a working ROM.

Hi, I have pretty much the exact same issue.

Here's what I have so far:

The drive doesn't spin but comes ready almost instantly.
I tried unlocked donor boards and it's the same.
I tried a donor rom from the same model (but different fw) and it's the same.
I tried donor rom that came with the donor board (completely different model and capacity) and it spins but clicks. Two donor boards and same results.

My theory is that this model checks the heads and doesn't spin if the heads are bad. Hence why donor from same model doesn't help but different model does. But it's just a theory.

The bottom line is I need donor SA resources for this drive with same FW to confirm if it's a heads issue.

Does any have this?
WD60EZAZ-00ZGHB0
FW 00020028

TIA

These newer WD drives won't spin up, if one or more heads are bad.

If you find the bad head(s) and disable it/them in ROM, the drive will spin up.
If the drive was dropped and then powered up, a headcrash is possible killing (rip off) more heads than just one.
