Seagate 1.5TB not being detected through SATA

March 28th, 2020, 20:07

I have an old Seagate Backup plus portable that I shucked. The model of the HDD is ST1500LM006 which is a Samsung Spinpoint drive.

When I put it into the PC with a SATA cable, its not being detected. Works fine through the USB port with the SATA to USB adapter built in. Can anyone help?

Does it spin up?

If it works fine through the Seagate USB adapter but not directly SATA connected, it's probably due to a sector size mutation that the USB adapter is doing. Good data recovery software should still be able to access the files, but to get the drive mounting again will require you to initialize and partition it again. Or just keep operating through the USB.

I couldnt tell this via SATA. But certainly spins up through USB.

The HDD is empty, dont mind formatting. What software o you recommend on windows? and do you mean that I may need to format each time I boot?

I was wondering whether the drive has been configured to Power Up In Standby (PUIS).
