Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi
I have an old laptop I'd like to use for retro programs.
Hard drive is 2.5" SATA Samsung 80 GB. Model number HM080JI.
It has bad sectors but I'll use it for nothing critical so I'd like to do a surface scan on it and put all slow sectors to P-List.
Which software can I use that's capable of handling Samsung drives?
Thanks

WCube, SHT, SHTR, Samsung HDD Repair Tool, SeDiv, etc.....

It is a magma drive so from what I gather SHT demo should be working in full mode for it.
any pointers on how to proceed from there? should I do the burn-in stuff or are there simpler things I can do before?

Okay I tried SHT 4.0.9 Demo, SHRT 2.0.0.3 Demo and SRT but neither can merge A-List to S-list.
Is there any other tool for this?

If you know how to use WCube, command is fmtu. On Samsung HDD Repair Tool there exist a button for this purpose.
Are you sure you did the right thing?

I guess ?
In Samsung HDD Repair I can only see Clear smart / Clear A-List etc. buttons. No buttons to merge A-List S-list.
Apart from that I tried Demo versions of SHT 4.0.9, SHRT 2.0.3, HDRT 1.0. Contrary to what it says in the manual, they don't allow writing S-list in the demo version.
I'll see if I can make use of WCube.

In fact Clear A-List Merge A-List to S-list.

A list = G list.
If you press clear G, it will put G(A) into S.
Presumably, at least.

I'm sorry do you mean the "Clear" button actually does merge?

Thanks.
I tried both "Clear G-list" and "Clear G-list 50" buttons. They do what they say, S-List wasn't changed.

In such a case you have to run BURNIN test, if you know how....

Yeah, I'm scared to do it

I bricked few WDs in the past while trying to do self-scan so I'd rather not touch it
