Identifying problem (sound provided)

Hello all

I just need a quick opinion of what this sound means about my harddrive.
It's a western elements 3TB. I disfonnected it first properly by ahuting it down through windows. Then vife minutes after it dropped op the table. It is a external drive and now it's makeing this very quiet sound.What does it mean?

While I'm not sure what the buzzing sound is about, I believe a physical repair is needed since the drive has been dropped.

Yes, I concluded the same too. I was just wondering if experienced hdd guru users might've had more info regarding the sound. And what might be the problem technically. I believe it is stuck heads and spindle not moving. Is it possoble the spindle is broke due to the falling from a table?
This external drive is a wd30ezrz and wad in a plastic casing with tcick rubbe on all fpur corners of the drive.

Why would heads stick to the aurface plattera anyway?

This is stiction (heads stuck on platters).

It needs clean room work.

Of data is important, I strongly suggest you consult a good DR professional.
Since the drive has been dropped, a heads swap might be necessary.

It's spyglass and from the stiction sound I believe there's a serious problem inside and needs a professional intervention.

Do harddisks park the heads outside or on top of the platters?
This case was a western digital blue inside a Elements casing/product.

Also. What if the platters are dine but the DR decides to lie and say it was a headcrash so I need to pay up the full amount for data recovery. after initial eval?

You could face this problem anywhere, plumber, mechanic, electrician, house painter etc, etc, etc.

You do your due diligence and research the company first, just like everything else. Look for reviews or anything negative. Do not tarnish any company based on these thoughts for no reason.

This sort of behaviour gets found out and IMHO is not too common and probably not an issue if you research first.

You cant watch over their shoulder, so a certain amount of trust here is what it comes down to.

Edit - I forgot to say, some labs are pricey... you may thing a quote is too high or it may differ a lot to another company. They may be a great lab and that is the just what they charge. A cheap lab may be just a good, so you have to make these decisions. There are many reasons for price so you shouldn't be too negative about it.

these are not cheap to recover, even if it is just stuck heads. there are a couple of things to take care of in order to do proper recovery. And head suspensions might be already damaged, so a head swap is often unavoidable.
It looks super primitive on videos, and yeah, sometimes it might work for a layman indeed, but i would estimate it less than 10% of the cases, 90+ gets screwed up by such interventions.
i might come to Amsterdam in 2 weeks if you can't find anybody locally, which i doubt...

Heads stick because their surface and the surface of the platters are so smooth that there's virtually no air left between said surfaces. Spinning platters provide an air cushion that prevents this but harddrives fail too sometimes. Then there's the motor, which lacks enough torque to get the platters spinning again. This is actually a good thing since otherwise the heads would scratch the platters and make it all worse.
