wd scorpio black 2.5 has APM and I cannot disable it

August 26th, 2020, 10:25

Hello everyone,

I have 2 wd5000bpkx, 7200rpm, 500gb, 16mb cache. After long time and checking the SMART I found out that they have APM! A scorpio black disk.. has APM.. talk about false advertisment maybe..? Anyway, I tried both hdat2 and wdidle3 tools in order to disable APM permanently, but it seems it's in the firmware or something. Does anyone have any idea?

you cannot change/disable apm value for wd drives. you can give it a try with victoria if you want to check.

Are you SURE about wd apm values cannot be changed? Please explain why. What about firmware edit/hack? I tried something in Victoria, the restart gave me ABRT error, if this is what you mean, if not please specify.
