Hello all, this is my first post here.
I have a Seagate ST2000DM001-1CH164 hard drive. I bought it new a few years ago, use it only for storage and took good care of it since then.
It was working good but now suddenly the computer takes longer to boot, sometimes the drive would not appear in the BIOS, and once Windows 10 starts the drive has 100% utilization but nothing is being accessed (read or write). Sometimes its 0% utilization but reading data is still super slow.
I downloaded the SeaTools for Windows and the SMART test fails. The Short Drive Self test PASS.
But one strange thing is that Firmware revision number doesn't show (it shows 0).
I looked for the newest firmware on the Seagate website and found it, but I am not sure if it would be a good idea and try to update it, can I lost my data in the process?
Could it be just the PCB?
Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I will start to backup the important data but at the current slow speed I don't know how much I will be able to backup. Its very slow, fortunately the data is not corrupted just very slow accessible.
thanks in advance.
