I'm trying to use a WD7500BPVT in my Linux laptop but gparted and dd give i/o errors. Strange thing is that the SMART tests are fine with no errors. Is there a utility I can try to look a little deeper into the problem?
Thanks.

I'd start with MHDD and/or Victoria to see whats going on, as a start.

Thanks for the reply, useful info for the future. After trying the disk in a Windows PC and getting no response from the OS I decided that the disk was at best going to be unreliable. It had sensitive data on, so I had to destroy it.
