Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I recently purchased and installed this hard drive to my Windows 10 PC.
The hard drive functions well (I'm able to save and view files) with the exception of an annoying noise...
Whenever I switch the computer on it keeps clicking every few seconds as if it's trying to read something. This keeps going indefinitely unless I press 'shut down' and abort the shut down by having something like an unsaved word document open. If I cancel the shut down and carry on using the computer, the clicking stops. Any idea on how to fix this without having to press 'shut down' every time i use the computer?

back up your data while you can and replace that drive immediately. Or do at least the first one.
i'm afraid that it will only get worse.
