External 2TB HDD, very slow, some files unreadable

December 13th, 2020, 16:16

On another forum, dedicated to video, someone exposed this issue :
« How do I fix external hard disk that is still partially working? »
In a nutshell : a 2TB external HDD (unspecified model) suddenly disconnected during a read operation, then could be accessed again but became very slow, and some files could no longer be read (affected video files no longer have a thumbnail in the files' explorer).
After a few members (some of them very knowledgeable when it comes to video and computers in general) had already chimed in, I made a relatively long post (same nickname), contradicting pretty much everything that came before.
Are my assessment and advices 100% correct ? Would such a behaviour be consistent with a failing / failed head, even if no other typical symptoms, like clicking, were reported by the owner ?
Thanks / Merci / Danke schön / Arigato gosaimas
