Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello folks. I'm hoping you can help me. I bought a few Seagate ST33000650SS' without being told they were pulls from an EMC Clariion. As such, they have custom EMC firmware which has several features disabled, such as temperature reporting, storage of self-test results, and error counter logging. The latter two being the most troublesome as the drives are eight years old.
Does anyone know how to replace the EMC firmware with stock Seagate firmware? Have a source for Seagate firmware? I can't go to Seagate as they ask for a serial number, and of course the ones on these drives don't work. Plus, I'm sure it isn't as straight forward as just flashing the drives with stock firmware.
