Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi
I'm quite new to this whole thing, but I have recently got more interested in repairing HDDs. I got a few of Seagate Baracuda 7200.11 1000GB drives, but they usually have some bad sectors, so I successfully got them unbricked at least using the serial communication and that's when it got more interesting. I found a list of all the commands that can manipulate with the drive. So here is my question:
Is it possible isolate the bad sectors in way, that the hard drive storage size would shrink, but the hard drive will no longer report bad sectors in use, or is this done automatically on the HDD itself?
Thanks everybody for the responses. This might be a really stupid question, but I'm just curious about stuff and I like to learn a new skills.

HardDisk Sentinel, the pay-for version, can run a Read Only sector by sector scan, alerting tech or user to "yellow" and/or "red" sectors. After getting mediocre and bad sectors locked out, I do not know how to prevent HDD's circuit board from reporting same via SMART or other ways.

HardDisk Sentinel, and any similar utility, usually comes with PDF or DOC or TXT that explains how to work the functions within said utilities. If such instructions are not included, there are numerous helps all though-out The 'Net that will help with those utilities.
