Does somebody knows where this ATA password is stored?

Is it in drive's electronic (in eprom or some other kind of chip) or it is written on surface of HDD?

I have some bad disks with working electronic, so I'm wondering would it be possible to replace electronic and make passworded hdds working.

That could success only if pwd is stored in electronics, so that is why I'm asking this question.

I've been using this technique for retrieving data on disks with damaged electronics, so maybe this coud be done in same manner.

I have tried it, anyway. And yes, you are right.
Can't disable it by changing electronics.
Well, sometimes I have to "invent hot water" again.
