Segate drive not detected

This drive have been working fine for two years, but after I stopped using that pc for half a year, it cannot be detected by the computer as a result it fails to boot.(see pic)

Initially I thought the head is stuck on the plate so I opened it and found out it is not (see YouTube link), it looks like it is working fine, no visible scratch whatsoever.

Why on earth would you think or do that?

I really hope that the data isn't important and at the very least you've added an open drive charge to a professionals recovery cost. My guess at what's wrong with the drive now, would be head damage, contamination and possible platter damage. As to what was wrong before you opened it and ran it without it's lid - we'll never know.

You may get lucky with it being a smaller capacity drive, but there are so many potential problems now.

Now we KNOW it ain't recoverable.

The ring is intended to be there, it is the landing zone.

Because I use external hard drives to transfer data quite often, I found out that if the power is suddenly cut while running, the head might be stuck on the platter.
I have opened a few and have no problem letting them run without the lid on. I have done some head swaps and platter swaps (for fun) for some unwanted disks and as long as there are no big particles, they all work fine. Maybe it is because I work in a chemistry lab, where they have some air filtration (not sure what grade but definitely not dust free, but sure better than normal)

I do agree opening the disk will do some damage to the platter but that is very minimal according to the scans. I won't use any opened disk anymore after getting the data out.

The disk I showed have not been tinkered before.

You have a nice ring, because the head scratches all that area.

The discs that have the parked on top of the discs do not have any rings to park on the disc.

The unit does not start because the head is trying to read that area and since it cannot, it clicks of dead.

There is a reason there's a lid. It's not just to protect the internals, it's also there to help maintain a positive pressure which creates an air cushioning with which the heads fly above the platters.
Guess what happens when that pressure drops.

i would not say it is surely not recoverable but not an easy one for sure. That ring is definitely not the normal parking zone.
