Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 Not spinning up

March 2nd, 2021, 12:59

Hello,

I have a 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 that will not spin up (no sound at all).

I have read a few forums and watched a few videos that have suggested that the TVs diode(s) may be shorted.

I have checked for continuity (i.e. short) on the ones in BLUE and they appear to be ok.

I have checked the SATA connector for shorts as well and it appears to be ok.

I did notice that one of the diodes further back on the board appears shorted (in RED). Not sure what this is or if this could be the issue.

Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated.

That family suffers from seized spindle motors. Can you hear anything at all if you place your ear against the casing?

Sadly I do not heard anything at all. It is strange as there was no waring (no SMART flag or anything).

This is why I thought it was a diode issue. I was going to try a donor board, but sadly I am not adept enough to replace the BIOS chip.

Hdd-parts.com will supply a PCB and transfer the firmware for US$50.

Can you measure the voltages at the 3R3 coils? Can you also measure the voltage at pin #4 of the 2P102A FETKY near the 1R2 coil?

Is the capacitor adjacent to the "red" diode shorted?

Thank you. I will look at these and report back.
