Seagate ST9500420AS Momentus 7200.4 spins but not recognised

March 7th, 2021, 11:01

Hello, I have the following issue with my HDD:
It can be heard that the motor spins but the HDD can't be found in the BIOS. It makes 11 sploshes after connected and then nothing more than spinning further. It seems that it could not find where to read the information on the disk any more.

On the PCB
PN: 9HV144-300
FW: 0002SDM1
the chips are:

SH6966A as VCM: can't be checked since no information about Vcc could be found
Winband 25x40al as flash: the Vcc is ok.
BCZZ001BC1 as uCtrl: could not check the Vcc

I checked the voltage at several capacities and could not find any short cut. In this forum I found another discussion [about Momentus 5400.6]
https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33572

who has two boards, one working and the other not. It mentioned 5 measured voltages which I can also find on my board now. Does anybody have an idea what the root cause could be for my issue? Thank you in advance!

Kang

If the motor spins, 99% its not a PCB issue.

11 sweeping noises and spin down (silent) = bad heads and/or media damage.

= no DIY

yeh, this is also my feeling. The PCB is still ok but the disks are most likely damaged. Thank you all!
