HGST HUS724040ALS640 firmware

March 24th, 2021, 6:12

Hi there,

I have bought two used 4TB HGST HUS724040ALS640 and two 2TB HGST HUS724020ALS640 drives for a Dell R420 with H310 LSI controller.
The 2TB drives are working ok, but the 4TB drives aren't working at all. No matter what I try I just can't use them. A customer service guy told me that the 4TB drives have a different firmware and I can only use them with the LSI Logic controllers. Unfortunately returning the drives is not possible.

I seems strange for me, or maybe it isn't, that this drives are labeled HGST but smartctl says they are HITACHI. Does anybody knows if I can change this drives firmware to an "original" HGST firmware, like the 2TB drives?

Thanks!

HGST stands for Hitachi Group Storage Technologies or something like that.
So, it is a Hitachi drive.
