WD My Passport Ultra - connection sound, but can't access it

July 9th, 2021, 10:16

WD My Passport Ultra 1TB

Issue:
--------
makes connection sound, but can't access it on a PC.

dmesg log:
-------------
I have attached the dmesg log.

errno 110 = ETIMEDOUT 110, Connection timed out

Sound:
--------
I have also attached a .wav file of the sound the drive makes.

Can anyone help?
Is this a PCB fault?
Is this a Head fault?
Is this a Actuator/motor fault?

Thanks

David

You need professional help. Try contacting either
Sean @ www.pcimage.co.uk or
Chris @ www.trcdatarecovery.com
Both are very fair and honest and will give you an evaluation of the HDD.

What do you suspect the problem might be?

If your drive is spinning up and the connection sounds then its not a PCB issue.
So its either firmware, bad sectors or failed/weak heads.

You might be lucky with that one listening to it, if the data has value of around (~300gbp) turn it off and don't play with it any more, probably isn't a DIY job but not as bad as it could be.
