Info about the free fall sensor.

October 29th, 2021, 15:51

Many hard drives have in S.M.A.R.T. an attribute related to G-sensor\free fall sensor.

- Where is located the free fall sensor?

- Is it triggered only by "falls" of hard drive or it could triggered by other kind of problems? (I have an hard drive that afaik hasn't fallen but is reports 3 events so I'm wondering if these have been caused by some accidental movement that I don't know or some other problem could be the real culprit)

Also I'm wondering why its presence seems very random and not directly related to hard disk price tier even among 2.5" portable\mobile hard drives.
