Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello friends,
Came out burned by a bad experience with Seagate two years ago, it took me three months to recover the data thanks and only thanks to this forum.
At a quick glance which one would you advise if at all?
MG07ACA14TE

MG08ACA16TE
https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0832B ... BO6Q&psc=1In hard-disk interface it's written Serial ATA-600 for MG08ACA16TE and ATA133 for MG07ACA14TE. Is that really the case for the latter one?
Many thanks

Thank you fzabkar.
What is the difference between MG07ACA and MG08ACA other that storage?

They seem to have the same technology, so it's just a matter of storage capacity.
Any other similar model worth to mention you would personally advice?

I don't see any significant difference. The 16TB has a greater data density (because both drives have 9 platters). One document specifies power loss data protection, so that may be something to consider.
Here is a photo of the 14TB PCB (MG07ACA):

I believe this is the 16TB PCB (MG08ACA):
https://www.harddriveparts.com/images/G0044A.jpgIt also appears to have several "ROMs" at IC4, IC5 and IC6. I'd have to see a better photo to be certain, though.

I was wondering if there is any good software I can use to run some basic test on the drive?
From the outside it seems to be perfect but the popular site I bought it from has this customary habit to send stuff inside used or recycled boxes.
Plus it has been thrown by the courier on my alleyway from the other side of the gate, part of the plastic envelop (see photo below) was damaged I assume due to transport and it didn't come inside the anti-static bag. Should I worry a bit?

It will probably go brick at the first powerup if it got damaged. So i recommend testing it for 1-2 days, if it fails you can get it replaced, if not, then it's not worse than anything else.
BUT! Hopefully you will have a backup after the story above

testing it for 1-2 days
More or less my strategy. I just loaded it with 1 TB of unimportant data and left it connected along with the other drives. So far I haven't detected anything unusual.
Thanks for your reassurance pepe

And here I am.
testing it for 1-2 days
Maybe not that quick but it seems quick enough.
I have had it connected more or less idling ever since I published this thread. It's always been there in silence, showing its icon. Today I needed to copy some data so i open its folder; i just had time to check a few sub-folders when the window suddenly disappeared. Strange I thought. I then reopen it and start the copying. The process went a bit on but then stopped followed by this message:
download/file.php?mode=view&id=23037I tried a few times and it seems the problem persisted, the drive's head (I presume) makes a sound the moment it stops.
I recorded it, you find it attached.
The drive is supposed to be still under warranty. I guess the best is returning it...
Any advice on how to make sure all data are properly erased?
Many thanks you for your support
(What a hassle...)

Update:
In the end I got a refund and kept the drive.
I have been keeping the drive busy since then, I split the space in two partitions and filled them up in turns. It was showing the issue for a few times but after a while it went back to normal. Not a device I can rely for important stuff. What a shame..
