Marn5 4K password bug

March 11th, 2022, 4:02

Got this drive with head crash, heads swapped, first sector looks encrypted, ask DE utility to decrypt, but it say there is a user password (customer didn't set any).
Looks like a bug to me, anybody ever got this situation?

ISTM that, if MRT is detecting the INIC1607E bridge IC in SATA mode, then it must have found the encryption key.

Can you upload the last 64MB of the drive? That will contain the SmartWare VCD and the encryption key.

Is there a password hint in the hint sector?

That is PC3000 :)
I had made a video 5 years ago showing that MRT had a bug on JMS538S decryption, which i've solved by extracting the key manually from mod 25.

Then i uploaded key on MRT DE utility and it decrypted as a charm. :)
