Hi..
I have a Samsung SP0411N with this problem..
The drive is detected by the BIOS but... after the POST the message is.. SECONDARY MASTER HARD DISK FAIL !!
-------MHDD REPORT-------------------------------------------
<F2>
SAMSUNG SP0411N LBA:78242976
SN: FW:TW100-11
Support: HPA AAM DMA (UDMA6,MWDMA2)
SMART: Disabled
Security: high, OFF. Size = 38204MB
To see enhanced information, use command EID <SHIFT+F2>
Init drive: [RECAL]
! ERROR: Drive not responding or operation canceled
-------------------------------------------------------------
After this command on MHDD <F2>, the drive heads knock and stop only after RESET <F3>
Question: Did this be a firmware issue? If this problem possible on Samsung drive too?
I have tested the logic board with another hdd and it seems to be in fine condition. Any sugestions?

It's actually the drive surface that's defective. Let me guess the BSY (busy) flag stays up after the drive was detected by the BIOS and it takes a while for the PC to boot. You'll need to find a way to make the drive ready again (put down the BSY flag) and I'd advise you to try to regenerate the drive surface (probably some starting LBA values along with LBA 0 are defective) with programs like HDDRegenerator or DRevitalize. IMO a simple Erase Waits command won't help much here.
