Seagate Baracuda HDD head stuck in park

September 5th, 2022, 5:54

The head on my hard disk seems to be stuck in park. not moving.

When I operate the hard disk with the cover on, there are click and scratch sounds. I opened up the hard disk, connected it and noticed the head is stuck in park, goes up and down and beeps a little when operated without cover on. The platter does not have any scratches and the header seems to be not broken. What could be a solution? Shall I just move the header?

Currently, the hard drive is undetected when connected. But it was being detected a while ago, however, I wasn't able to access the data on it. Hard drive had failed sea tools tests when it was detected. When I did try to open up partitions, it just kept loading but didn't give me access to the data. And then after this now the hard disk goes undetected

Ok, so t update, as it can be clearly seen I had not put on the screw for the header. The header now moves but the hard disk goes undetected. The disks are spinning as well, no problem with the motor or spindler. What can be done to savage some data from the disk
, shall I change the heads?

It's failed (these drives do that a lot).

It was pointless opening the drive there are no user serviceable parts inside. If you have run the drive without the lid there's a good chance you've done additional damage to the platter or heads. To recovery your data contact a recovery lab but expect an additional open drive charge and best part of 5-600 gbp.

Thank you for the reply. The reason I attempted to open it and do the repairs myself is because the data is not critical and I was able to save a partition while it was working, before it failed. I wouldn'want to spend on the data I am looking to extract from this drive.

Shall I try changing the heads or just swap out the platters to another drive?

You can't perform open heart surgery with a chisel and a hammer.

You can try to change heads but you won't be able to modify firmware.

Original problem was probably bad clusters on some very important parts of the drive that prevented it from starting when you powered it up. the problems can't be fixed and you would have just had a a bit of bad luck. Opening the drive would have destroyed it because it was not open in a air clean lab.
