Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Dear HDDGuru Community,
I have a strange case of a newer WD My Passport protected with password via WD Drive utility. After plugging in, the drive shows the window of WD Drive Unlock to enter the password, the utility refuses any password. I have the correct password.
It is a newer Palmer family. Would it make sense to convert the drive from USB to SATA (using the unlocked PCB) and then read the encrypted image via PC3K. Would it be possible then to decrypt it via standard solutions? Have anyone of you encountered problem like this?
Thanks in advance,
Oliver

If it’s one of the later Palmer drives, it has hardware encryption via the MCU so can only be decrypted using the USB PCB.
