LIST of common Desktop & Laptop EEPROMS

September 13th, 2022, 4:17

I want extensive details of the EEproms used in Desktop & laptop drives.
All I know that desktop logic boards use SOIC8 8 leg chips.
I want to know types of chips used in laptop hard disks logic board.
I also want to know distance between pins of both chips. I want to buy Serial eprom reader probe and want to ensure ordered probes are having correct spacing to fit SOIC8 desktop / laptop chips.
Thank you.

What are you planning to do about QFN chips?

Hi Lardman
Thanks for replying. Frankly speaking I am not even aware of hard disks having QFN chips.
I have a unique requirement of on site rom transplant on a defense client site. So instead of taking hot air gun I am planning to take pogo rom reader probe.
I have checked aliexpress but there are different probes for different chips.
Currently I am looking solution for Desktop Seagate / WD hard disks starting from 160GB to 2TB . I think most of the chips on these desktop hard disks are SOIC8 TSOP IC's.
I want to build excel sheet of all eeprom chips ever used in drives , there voltage ratings etc. This will help new technicians .
I am also looking for safe & reliable ROM reading techniques. There are less risks involved in solderless rom reading.
So I want to know distance between pins of SOIC8 ROMS so that I can choose right probe.
Thanks

Tosh and Fujitsu 2.5s spring to mind. I've had nothing but bad experiences with the clips but the pogo's appear to have a better reputation.

The https://www.reveltronics.com/en/ site is probably worth checking out for technical specs.
