WD4000F9YZ-09N20L0 - strange case

October 10th, 2022, 13:33

Hi, long time not writing in this forum, not free time, but i have one case with strange symptoms, means i have WD4000F9YZ-09N20L0 this is Vivaldi Familly PCB 2060-771822-002 REV A, this drive trying Spin Up, spin up, spin up then spin down, not hear Head Calibration, not seeking, and clicking, nothing. In this case only can read ROM and not seeing RDY/DSC registers only seeing AMNF register. If change PCB from my personal PC from WD2000FYYZ-01UL1B3 the same PCB, Drive Spinning Up, Hear Heads Seeking, and See RDY/DSC registers, in this case i can access to SA/UA.
First testing Heads -> all good in SA i UA so not is Heads. What can i do in this case?

Btw this drive not is for sale, and clear SMART. This is my personal disk.
Thank you for all sugestions.

I think your issue is power. Not enough power. If you can try a separate power supply for that drive you might be OK. Every time I have had a drive doing that the problem has been not enough power. USB BUS power is not enough to run a big drive. You need a separate PSU with more milliamps.

case solved, the problem was in headstack connector on PCB. Same PCB Are good. Now drive fully detect ok, and ready to next diagnosis.
