Recovery drive with damaged EEPROM

Hi guys,

I am posting because I am just doing some research about a faulty drive and there are some questions that are not clear to me, hope you can help me.

I currently have a ST500DM002-1BD142 drive, PN 1BD142-500 and Firmware KC45 but it seems that is faulty.
I friend of mine tried to do controller swapping with an DONOR drive with exact same model, PN and firmware. He tried to swap the EEPROM/BIOS from the DONOR drive to the faulty drive and it seems that he screwed up the controller on the soldering process (broken legs and as an intend to be able to connect them, used dremel to uncover the paths).

Now I have a EEPROM that seems to not be accessible (broken legs and no access to the connections)

Is there I can do to access the faulty drive? Is there any way to "build" EEPROM code to write to a new EEPROM or possibility to access the data?

Rather than us trying to determine what you actually mean - can you post a picture of the original PCB as it is now and the donor pcb. So we can see the damage and just exactly what was done.

By what was written I could "guess" that the ROM is gone

It may just be butchered, the fact it's even been damaged doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the OP friend's technical ability. What might appear to have "no connections" to an untrained naked eye may be salvageable under the microscope by someone with a little with more technical experience.

Absolutely, the question now is whether there are any realistic pro recovery options or if the DIY has taken those away too.

I'm sorry but the right way is the other way round. You need to move the patient 'ROM' from the faulty board to the healthy/donor PCB. Is that what you mean?
