WDC External USB - MCU Encryption

February 8th, 2024, 6:37

Hello. Good morning companions.

Not long ago I received a unit with data encryption by MCU with USB PCB 810035. Therefore, the MCU and ROM must be transferred to the donor unit SATA PCB 810030.

I wonder if there is a list of USB PCB drives that have this encryption?

I have this list:

800041

800067

800069

810003

810012

810033

810067

810035 MCU Encryption

I can only confirm the 810035. Can anyone confirm the other models?

It actually depends on the drive firmware and release date.

After a certain point, WD started releasing families encrypting with MCUs where previously a compatible SATA or unlock board would get you access to SA and sectors.

AFAIK I think it's later Spyglass families (Spyglass 2, Spyglass Ultra Light, Spyglass 3 )

Newer Chargers, Newer Palmers

I don't know if someone has listed the models, but I'd say if the date of manufacture is after 2020, then there is a good chance it is.

You have to ask the USB PCB models. I want to know which of those models have MCU Encryption.
