Very old Conner CT210 problem

May 15th, 2024, 10:06

Hello everybody,

I have here a very old Conner HDD model CT210 (10.2GB).

It doesn't spin up, so I suspect bad PCB.

As donor, I have a CT210 but not from Conner but from ExcelStor (that acquired Conner, I think). PCB is VERY similar, but FW is different... (I attach pics).

With donor PCB, Conner HDD spins up but makes bad noise (continous TRRRRRRRRR) with heads.

I opened it in clean room and heads SEEM ok.

There is something to transfer from patient PCB to donor PCB or something I can try with this vintage HDD?

Thanks
Simone

U4A and U5 are parallel flash.

I notice that the 8-pin IC (part marking?) has a dimple. Perhaps it is damaged?

Here is the brief datasheet for a similar (?) MCU:

I suspect that the Vio (3.3V) and Vcore (2.5V) voltages are provided by the transistors at U12 and Q1 (right hand edge of PCB).

Could U11 constitute a supply for the preamp?

Doesn't spin up as in theres no attempts to spin or the motor attempts to spin up, but can't?
