hello,
since few weeks i understood that few of my laptops may or are definitely concerned by hard disk issues, especially slow ones.
for sure one is SMR, as 4x bigger and slower than it's medium size at it's manufacturing.
well, id like to know, if you have few good software, eg to try, under windows, or linux, because even under both sometimes speeds looks like very different, but also on a specific hp laptop where the hdd is slow as a turtle (not kidding unfortunately)
what soft of free software do you run to test disks?
thank you !
eg my smr disk (on my main laptop) is :
ST1000LM035-1RK1
the turtle disk (another laptop, very slow) is :
ST1000LM024 PN: HN-M101MBB/M // rev A fw: 2AR10002
it's nice because on st1000 few firmwares are available even from manufacturer's website (not directly on laptop's dedicated page, they are not that insane), **but**, the files downloaded are firmware to be flashed on msdos system, or asking at least the disk to be formated as.. MBR, where they have been manufactured for GPT-type systems.

Well, would want to know if you have few decent programs under windows, Linux, or even under both sometimes speeds appear like extremely different, but also on a certain hp laptop where the hdd is sluggish as a turtle. Which free soft copy program you run to test disks?
