Model of this Seagate Barracuda hard drive? Single platter?

August 14th, 2024, 5:25

Hi, I have an old Seagate Barracuda that I removed a platter from many years ago. I would like to know how many platters this hard drive had.

Was it a single platter or did it have more?

I only have a picture of part of the sticker and the hard drive casing. On the sticker you can see Seagate Barracuda 1000GB. The serial number starts with Z1D. PN starts with 1C (I think it's a C and not a 0). On the right there was a RoHS logo. I don't know what model it was exactly.

Can I know how many platters this hard drive had? And heads? I only removed one platter, were there more?

Thank you.

Thank you very much for the response.

I found the serial number on the case and was able to find out that it is the model ST1000DM003.

Is this model always with a single platter and two heads? Are there ST1000DM003 models with two platters?

I'm a little confused. I have seen that some ST1000DM003 models were called Barracuda (like mine) and others ST1000DM003 called Desktop HDD, with different serial numbers and PN numbers, thanks for the help.

Those were 1 platter only. May i ask what are you planning to do with it?

Hello, thanks for the response.

I was trying to recover data from the hard drive (it was unmounted) and I only had one platter. I didn't know if I should have a second platter.

I had a doubt because I saw that this ST1000DM003 model had different names (Barracuda and Desktop HDD) and different PN/FW, but according to the answers in this forum they should be the same in terms of a single platter and two heads. Thanks

If you don't have original PCB and the platter was took out- forget it.
