I bought an aluminum case for a 2.5" HDD on AliExpress and it also came with this accessory, but I don't know what it's for, it looks like a sponge

It's like a normal sponge..but for cleaning the HDD. It's small so you can really get into the little gaps and scrub it properly.

Skinbob, you mean the dust sitting between the heads of the disk, right?

If I don't use this sponge, will the HDD be damaged and have bad blocks?
I use this 2.5" Seagate ST500LM030 HDD and the case measurements are length, width, height 12.7 * 7.5 * 1.2cm

Dear sonicmario,
I sometimes wonder if you are kidding when you are asking your questions...
The sponge will supposedly prevent your 2,5'' disk from moving around in your enclosure.
It might as well serve as an electrical isolation.

I'm not kidding
I'm not sure if I should divide this sponge in two and where I should put them.

Yes, these sponges are there to prevent the drive from banging around inside the case.
However, in the case of this Seagate it doesn't matter, because it will break with or without them, sooner or later.
