Seagate ST3802110A - modyfy APP to disable error processig

September 30th, 2024, 12:13

Hi
While back i got this Seagate Barracuda ST3802110A IDE drive. After starting, the heads click for around 4 seconds, then stop and so on. Disk is seen by BIOS and Windows, but I can't do anything with it (it has a RAW partition, which fails to format). SMART shows around 10k reallocated sectors, HDTUNE shows bad sectors in a repeating pattern. From what I've heard this is an issue with error procesing, which could be fixed by editing the APP of the drive. Sadly I couldn't find the required commands for it, so I'll ask here if anybody can guide me on how to disable the error procesing.

Are you trying to repair it to use again? or do data recovery? If you need data recovery then do you have any professional tools?

From my understanding, the disable error processing command will be at level C> ? Or am I searching in the wrong place?

After running C,,22 command the drive became undetectable. In terminal I get:
Code:
>Interface task reset
1024k x 16 SDRAM
TONKA2 - 1_Disk    M-31   03-22-06 10:53
Head Mask FFFF - Head Mask FFFF - Switch to full int.
              Spin Ready
(P)PATA Reset
Not Interface Age!
VALID Cert Disk Code Detected - Revision # .0C6
Cert Table loaded

T>
Which probably means I screwed this drive more than it was before. I'm still hoping to atleast make it be detectable instead of a total piece of scrap, so I'll ask if anybody has any ideas.
