Hey there,
i got a Sony PSX on my last vaccation. That's the Japan only Version of the PS2 with an integrated DVR.
Unfortunately there are a lot of these consoles with broken harddrives. And mine is no exception. It's crashed badly.
Sony is running some special firmware on these drives, so it's not possible to just drop in antoher one with the same model number.
That's why i would like to transfer the PCB of my crashed drive to another working one.
But the fine people from the PS2 community tried that before and told me it's not possible. Since the data stored in the controller doesn't fit the new drive they just don't work.
So my question is: Is it possible to properly configure/calibrate the old PCB to a new drive? Or to dump the firmware and write it to antother drive?
I've got the faulty drive talking over the serial interface. But i'm not sure where to go from here or if its even possible to do what i want to do.
So i'm hoping you guys can shine some light on the topic for me
