Western Disgital Greed hard drives.

February 15th, 2025, 8:52

I've come across lots of WD green hard drives that appear the heads just fall of the drive arms. Anyone come across many cases like this. Just bought a box of faulty hard drives from E-bay, just to have some fun with seeing whats wrong with them, but I noticed lots of WD GREEN and some RED drives having this problem. The platters appear to be fine, just the heads have fallen off. Very strange.

What do you mean heads fallen off?

Platters appear unscratched, drives does not appear to have been dropped, but the heads are embedded in the outer seal around the drive. Seen this on many drives now. Just seems strange. So far Seagate seems the best. Only fails from bad sectors in a system area vial to the drive.

Although WD platters are very thick and appear good quality, I feel they let there brand down with the heads. LOL...

I hadn't noticed this before but since you posted it I've had a couple of WD10EARS in with missing heads.
