WD 800067 Cannot read real data after head replacement

April 24th, 2025, 20:24

WD charger 800067 had a faulty PCB and dead heads. we swapped PCB, transferred ROM chip and controller chip from original PCB to donor. then HDD turn on but couldn't identify, next we swapped heads, now HDD powers up and identify and in MRT data explorer, there is data but it's not real data, also tried to unlock SED, any suggestions?

By "controller chip", do you mean MCU?

I mean this chip that marked with red circle around it? I was told by MRT technician that this chip holds the encryption key, Is it the wrong chip?

That's the USB-SATA bridge. It does not have an encryption key.

it's because Chargers encrypt data via MCU.
You changed PCB, so MCU is different, so data is encrypted.
You need to use original PCB (convert to SATA or use solderless PCBs or....)
