Toshiba MK6025GAS 60GB - trying to spin up but keeps repeat

May 12th, 2025, 6:19

Win10 doesn't detect it and when I put my ear to it. It sounds like its trying to spin up for 3 seconds then the sound repeats again and again. What could be the issue? The PCB needs to be swapped out with another? Or do I need to open this up? I have all the necessary tools to open this up if I need to. I just want my data off of it if possible. What else can I do?

I could be wrong, but I think your model may be one of those that suffered from spindle bearing problems. You might try to warm up the spindle with a hair dryer. I'm assuming that the motor starts to spin, and that it's not a stiction fault (heads stuck to platters).

Good morning,
I’ve already tried this using a hot air gun — I warmed up the drive (motor unit) by flipping it over and specifically heating the motor at the back (in the center, where the label is stuck).
After a while, it starts spinning, but it makes a terrible squealing noise, and then it falls back into its previous state again. :/

Have you tried checking the power supply or using a different SATA cable? Sometimes the simplest fix can save the day!

Sometimes SATA cables can trick the user but replacing the interface cable hardly ever fixed a bearing issue...
