Hi,
What means "medium errors" ?
Can you tell me ( or us ) what kind of controller gives this message ?

This is device status ("MEDIUM ERROR"), it could be viewed with any program (mhdd). For Seagates that means some errors in system area (or somebody was trying to change sector size

)

Thanks Dmitry for you explanation, but I have one small question :
We can see the message "medium erro" or this is a Device Status ?

Some SCSI contollers report this status (and any other if not just "good").
This is something like IDE Status and Error registers.

ok, I only gott a few SCSI here and most part of them was Quantum Atlas, so I never had oportunity to see this situation.
Anyway, I will look for some SCSi Seagates and try some tests.
Thanks

controller card was adaptec 29160. medium errors means i think so drive can not read its size. so may be system or sa errors. but my question is how to get around to get its data . any fix, any way to get data out. i tried hotswap did not help.

This can occur if too many defects have been found and cannot be located to the G'list or corrupted defect lists etc. On Seagate SCSI you can try to flash the same version of firmware to the drive, make sure drive is sent Spin down command first. You could get lucky

P other than this you need access to SA for a good fix of course this info is confidential
